weak evidenceOne trial, 41 women, six weeks, twice daily. It cut roughness 23 to 26 percent and fine lines 27 to 29 percent, with biopsy evidence of higher collagen I. Read the design before the numbers: both arms got idebenone, at 0.5 and 1 percent, and there was no vehicle arm, so nothing here is measured against the lotion base or against six weeks of simply moisturising. The formulations tested were the commercial products. Twenty years on, a 2025 review still lists that trial as the only human skin study there is. Contact dermatitis is reported.
